Corto.alto is challenging the boundaries of contemporary jazz, bringing a fresh perspective to improvisation and electronic production.

The brain-child of award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Liam Shortall.

His performance at Metronome forms part of his latest UK tour, supporting the release of his new album ‘Bad With Names‘ which is out Friday 6 October 2023.

The album has received support from Gilles Peterson, Huey Morgan (BBC 6 Music) and Jazz FM.

His latest E.P release ‘Not for Now’ (Released November 2021) amassed over 1 million streams across digital streaming platforms, as well as receiving multiple plays from Gilles Peterson’s show on BBC Radio 2, as well as plays on BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio Scotland, Worldwide FM and more.

corto.alto has also been awarded ‘Best Band’ and ‘Best Release’ in the Scottish Jazz Awards in 2020. This release also seen editorial playlist support from Spotify (State of Jazz, Jazz UK, 21st Century, Fusion Fest), Apple Music, Deezer, and magazines such as JazzWise, Disco Pogo, Snack Mag and Jazz Revelations.

Elmz XIX

Elmz XIX is a rap artist, songwriter, and producer from Nottingham, UK.

He is noted for having a deep, captivating voice and seamless Rap flow often accompanying his own experimental production.

He is inspired by a range of influences such as 90s Rap, early 2000s Grime and alternative Hip Hop. He encompasses this into his own style called “HipNative”.

He was recently a part of Capital Xtra’s Music Potential, a collective of the best young Musicians across the UK. This led to him performing at Outlook Festival in Croatia.

Elmz XIX also recently produced the music for an Adidas campaign.

Tom Robinson of BBC Radio 6 quoted “The inventive detail of his production is matched with the sheer quality of his hooks and vocal flow”.
