On Friday 11 August, the award-winning Nottingham actress Vicky McClure MBE and Welsh filmmaker and actor, Jonny Owen, enjoyed their wedding party at Metronome.
Known for her starring roles in ITV’s Line of Duty and Trigger Point, Vicky McClure first came to prominence for her role in the 2006 drama This is England and later won a Bafta for its follow-up series This Is England ’86. She has gained further recognition outside of acting for her charity work and involvement with the Alzheimer’s Society.
In 2019, McClure started Nottingham-based Our Dementia Choir after her late grandmother Iris was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and found comfort in music.
Jonny Owen has appeared in shows including Shameless and My Family and won a Welsh Bafta in 2007 for the documentary The Aberfan Disaster which he co-produced.
Vicky and Jonny (pictured) are both great friends of Metronome and our neighbours Confetti, and so it was flattering they chose us for their special day. The happy couple were joined by their family and friends including many well-known faces, such as Paddy McGuiness, Vicky’s Line of Duty co-stars, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar, and several of her fellow cast members from This is England. Serenaded by Our Dementia Choir, Vicky and Jonny enjoyed their first dance together in our auditorium (pictured above).
This isn’t the first time Vicky has chosen Metronome to host a special event. Back in December 2022 Vicky curated a fundraising gig with us for Teenage Cancer Trust, headlined by MOBO-winner and Nottingham-born rapper Bru-C. A proud ambassador of the charity, Vicky is committed to raising funds for vital support services for young people with cancer aged 13-24, and to raise awareness of the huge challenges they face in life.
It doesn’t end there, last year Vicky, well known for the BBC series “Our Dementia Choir”, chose our sister venue Confetti X for a very special screening of episode two. The choir and their special guests assembled in Confetti X to watch the episode, which featured the choir performing with Brit award-winner Tom Grennan at Splendour Festival last year. Following the screening, Vicky joined Choir members and BBC host Mark Dennison on stage to take part in a Q&A.
We’re delighted to have supported Vicky with her ventures over the years and thrilled she chose us to be part of her special day. We’re looking forward to lots more opportunities working together in the future.
