We’re very excited to be kicking off the 2023 autumn programme with a new series of Metronome Sessions.
Bringing together the best pianists and folk artists from around the world, for intimate seated performances, Sessions have been a firm favorite in Metronome’s calendar.
Since first launching in 2021, we’ve welcomed numerous national and international performers to our main stage including pianist and Norwegian Grammy winner, Susanna; Munich and Berlin-based pianist and composer, Carlos Cipa, and BBC Radio 2 Folk award winner Rowan Rheingans to mention but a few.
Taking place monthly, our autumn 2023 programme includes:
Owen Spafford & Louis Campbell: Folk Session
Thursday 28 September 2023
Since forming their duo in 2018, Owen Spafford (Cosmo Sheldrake) and Louis Campbell (Sam Sweeney) have been nominated for the BBC Young Folk Award. Their debut album ‘You, Golden’ released in November 2022 blends influences from contemporary classical, post-rock, ECM Jazz and bluegrass cohesively and organically into English folk music with a combination of traditional and contemporary material which is sonically indistinguishable in origin.
Bird in the Belly: Folk Session
Thursday 30 November 2023
The Brighton-based folk group consists of folk-duo Hickory Signals (Laura Ward and Adam Ronchetti), alt-folk singer-songwriter Ben Webb (Jinnwoo, Green Ribbons), and multi-instrumentalist and producer Tom Pryor. Together they collect little known and forgotten lyrics, poems and stories from around the UK, and set them to their own hypnotically original compositions.
Simeon Walker: Piano Session
Thursday 7 December 2023
The prolific UK-based pianist and composer has quickly emerged as a leading light in the burgeoning Modern Classical scene, regularly performing and touring across the UK and Europe.
Simeon has supported a variety of artists including Neil Cowley, LYR, Submotion Orchestra, S. Carey, Loscil, Erland Cooper and Niklas Paschburg, and performed notable live sets at Latitude and Timber Festivals. His music is regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC 6Music, Classic FM, Scala Radio, KEXP and Soho Radio, with his music receiving listening figures in excess of 30 million across streaming platforms.
