Nottingham Poetry Festival Presents…

Dyslexic academic, Grime writer and Bashment dancing social activist: Debris Stevenson explores the intersectional, unexpected and unjust. Debris has worked in over 20 countries, raised over £300,000 with her company Mouthy Poets to develop young talent, designed academic poetry modules and had her poetry pamphlet, Pigeon Party, published by Flipped Eye.

Debris’ Grime musical, Poet in da Corner (Royal Court) received 4-5 stars across the board and toured alongside the show’s album release (Accidental Records) this year. Meanwhile, Debris’ new show (in development), The Write to Rave explores her dancing for The Heatwave, Red Bull Music Academy and Glastonbury Festival.

With a massive nod to Mouthy Poets, GOBS Collective launched in March 2020 in partnership with Nottingham Trent University. The group of emerging poets met in NTU’s Dance Studio, starting on a journey of development in a series of creative-writing workshops with Lead Artists Ioney Smallhorne and Bridie Squires.

Shortly after, the world went into lockdown following the news of the Covid-19 pandemic. GOBS Collective continued their workshops in online video-chat sessions and worked towards a digital stream of poetry films instead of the once-planned live showcase at NTU’s University Hall.

Now, the dynamic group of poets are set to deliver a Live Showcase alongside Debris Stevenson.
