★★★★ Guardian

The original and compelling Sarathy Korwar (Ninja Tune, Leaf Label) fuses jazz, hip hop and Indian classical to such great effect the Guardian gave him a 4 star review. Fans include Four Tet, Gilles Peterson and Shabaka Hutchings who have all collaborated with him. He has toured with Kamasi Washington, Yussef Kamaal and Moses Boyd.

History
The classically trained tabla player immersed himself in the London Jazz Scene collaborating with Shabaka Hutchings (Sons of Kemet, The Comet is Coming) and clarinettist Arun Ghosh.

He worked with Four Tet, Floating Points and Gilles Peterson on the Steve Reid Foundation to produce his extraordinary debut album in 2016. Released on Ninja Tune it fused traditional folk music of the Sidi community in India with jazz and electronics and was included in BBC’s Late Junction ‘Top 10 albums of the year’.

Sarathy Korwar released his new album ‘More Arriving’ through the Leaf label on 26 July 2019. It features South Asian rappers and poets many from the Dharavi slum in Mumbai where a young energetic hip hop scene is emerging. The album is focused upon South Asian identity and fuses spiritual jazz, hip hop, Indian classical and electronics.
