Women in Music is back for another evening of panels, discussions and networking to address the gender
imbalance in the music industry.

The evening will feature discussions from a wide range of women working in the industry.

All ticket money is donated to Equation, a Nottinghamshire charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse and sexual violence.

PANEL 1 – Fightback: Grassroots Promoter Initiative
Last year Music Venue Trust and MusicPlanet Live launched a new partnership to reinvigorate and diversify the grassroots music scene in the UK. The scheme offers £100,000 in subsidy guarantees available to underwrite 100 Fightback fundraising shows at Grassroots Music Venues promoted by the next generation of young, female, independent promoters.

Beverley Whitrick, the Strategic Director at Music Venues Trust will present on why it started, some of the successes they’ve had so far and how women can get involved, followed by an interview with two promoters who have taken part in the initiative recently – Kayla Bell and Louise McGovern.

INTERVIEW – The Tuts in conversation with Jackie P, 97.5 Kemet FM (OFFICIAL)
The Tuts have long been one of the best and brightest new bands in the UK, for what they do and what they represent. This all-female, all-feminist, DIY “3-Tone” trio (of proud Caribbean, English and Indian/Pakistani origin) are avatars in the ongoing debate over inclusivity in the music scene, as well as a powerful musical unit by any standards. Hear them in conversation with Kemet FM’s Jackie P.

PANEL 2 – Festivals: Forging Gender Equality On & Off The Stage
There has been a lot of media coverage about the lack of women on festival line-ups, but what about women behind the scenes? Hear from women who are running festivals about how they got to where they are, what challenges they have faced, what the festival industry is like for women and how we can improve equality in this sector.

Panellists:
Cassie Fox – Founder, LOUD WOMEN
Goc O’Callaghan – Festival Director, ArcTanGent
Joanna Leljevahl – Event Manager, Snowbombing Festival

Chaired by Jen Thomas, music journalist and radio presenter
